Recommended Films

In the Realms of the Unreal
Intuit's permanent collection includes the Henry Darger Room Collection, which is a collection of materials, architectural details, and furnishings from Darger's original apartment/studio in Chicago. Learn more about the prolific artist Henry Darger through a tour of Intuit and a screening of this award winning documentary.

Visions of Paradise
Choose from one of these five half hour films; each portraying the life and work of an American visionary artist: Minnie Evans, Grandma Prisbrey ( Bottle Village), Chief Thunder, Harry Lieberman, or Calvin Black.

Art Is Life: Don’t Kill IT: Profile of Lonnie Holley
A very popular and inspring profile of Lonnie Holley, who was Intuit's first artist in residence in May of 2007. Holley creates art from found objects and the detritus of human activity.

Inside the Art of Self Taught Artists
A wonderful introduction to self-taught and outsider art shown through the lives of three unique artists: Ken Grimes, Kevin Sampson, and Malcah Zeldis.

Driving the Dream
A fun and informative way to introuduce your group to the creative world of art cars. The art cars highlighted in this film include: Gene Pool's Grass Bus, Harry Sperl's Hamburger Harley, and Hyler Bracey's horn and whistle adorned Bighorn, along with Harrod Blanks's own creations.

Metamorphosis: The Fiber Art of Judith Scott
This film profiles Judith Scott (1943-2005). In 1987, Scott became involved with art at the age of forty-four through Creative Growth in California. Scott created colorful abstract fiber sculptures, which she often incorporated scavenged objects into. Work by Judith Scott is featured in our permanent collection.

Come Unto Me: The Faces of Tyree Guyton
An inspiring portrait of artist Tyree Guyton who was instrumental in revitalizing a neglected Detroit neighborhood. Guyton began what is known as the Heidelberg Project in 1986. He continues to work on it today in collaboration with the community.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
