Better Homes & A Few Gardens

Thursday, November 29, 2007, 6pm
In celebration of the exhibition Sublime Spaces & Visionary Worlds: Built Environments of Vernacular Artists (June 2007 - January 2008) at Kohler Arts Center, Lisa Stone, curator of the Roger Brown Study Collection of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the co-author of Sacred Spaces & Other Places, will present a slide lecture on selected environments by inspired artist/builders. Stone will explore the inspired architectural expressions of several artist/architects, including the intensely original exterior design and transformed interior spaces of Karl Junker's Junkerhaus (Lemgo, Germany), the ingenious spatial narrative of S.P. Dinsmoor's Garden of Eden (Lucas, Kansas), and the idea of the tower in Eugene Von Bruenchenhein's painting and sculpture.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
